THE TALE OF THE OLD PROSPECTOR… Dreams of Success Shattered

Al Jolson – Brother can you spare a Dime
Many Moons ago in there was a young man who ventured West to mine the California Hills in search for Gold.He started out as young men, worked a lifetime growing old hoping for the big strike “The Mother Load” Only when they finaly hit Gold at the end of the tunnel to have a big mining Corporation come along and jump his claim. All those years of toiling by old Prospector was for nothing.
When I was growing up there was a Gas station owner “Gus” who worked hard and never worked other than in the costumers interest. Gus was a Rare Honest Mechanic His shop was located on Maine Street Flushing not far from Booth Memorial Hospital.Gus heard of a new development being built “CARLISLE TOWERS” He worked and suffered in the muck & meyer of the construction around the area of his station with blocked streets while barly eiking out a living only for the oil company to pull his lease when the construction was over.Poor Gus never saw the pot of gold at the end of the tunnel.  All of Gus’s hard work and earnest efforts went to someone else who never suffered or got their hand’s dirty and walked into a gold mine made possible by Gus.
The creator of Superman Comic book never reaped the fortune that Hollywood made from his creation. His rights for Superman was bought out for peanuts.
The superman movie made more money than all the gold that’s in Fort Knox.. Well I helped make competitive eating the sport it is today. I am that old prospector. I am that gas station mechanic,I am the originator of Superman . It’s nice to have new people follow in your footsteps but I never worked my ass off so the eaters of today can reap the pot of gold in the sport that I helped define and shape and glory of the seed that I sowed & that’s the way I feel..Don Lerman ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Remember In Competitive Eating That I Was Once A Titan At Olympian Heights..
So let this story serve as a reminder to all the new people in Competitive Eating.. I was  once a major figure in this sport and how I was treated will have a direct effect on everyone else.. This is your future..
Now let me tell you the story of Farmer who ran his farm with his elderly father and his young son.One day the farmer says to his young son”Grandpa is no longer able to work  & on my farm if you don’t work then you don’t eat..So put Grandpa in the in the barn to starve to death”. As his  young son is walking his elderly Grandfather to the barn his father says “Hold it though I want him to starve to death give Grandpa this blanket to keep warm while he’s in the barn”.
A few minutes later his young son comes back with half a blanket..His father says”whats this”..His son replied “I’m saving this half for you  some day”
Mark my words when all the Joey Chesnuts cease to be as productive as they were in their prime can bet your bottom dollar that half a blanket  will be saved for them.
