It was hot a summer day in June of 1964 & W.T. Grants lunch counter had a sign all the Ice Tea you can drink for 15 cents. I was 15 years old at that time. I sat at the lunch counter and proceeded to order me some of that all you can drink Ice Tea.
After about 5 glasses the waitress told me that I had enough and that she wasn’t going to serve me anymore.
I protested” The sign says all you can drink”” she replied back that’s for someone who orders a diner (such as all the flounder or fried shrimp you could eat for 69 cents) I replied back that the sign doesn’t say that and I’m not leaving untill I get my refill.
She immediately called for the manager who promptly arrived ”He doesn’t want to leave she told him..He said he’s not done drinking Ice Tea.. The Manager not wanting to create a scene said ”Well how much more Ice Tea do you want to drink?” I replied “What time do you close?” it was 4:30 pm and I stood there drinking many more Glasses of Ice Tea untill closing time at 6:30pm. end
You should have tried the food it was good. I was store manager back then.
