A Word To The Wise Don’t Ever Sit By a Window Seat When at a Restuarant

The year was 1959 I was 10 years old , I just finished having a meal at Grabsteins kosher Deli in Canarsie Brooklyn, as I exited the restaurant I couldn’t help notice a family having lunch by the window seat in restaurant,I was already outside at the time near the window, a thought quickly raced in my mind . I quickly picked my nose and shimmered it on the window, ruining the families meal. the husband started yelling and threw his hands up in disgust as the waiter came out with a rag to clean the window , I ran away fast.. to this day I will never sit by a window seat in a restaurant for that reason .

remember old time Jewish Eateries in the 1950′s in  New York  City, One was a  Kosher fast food  Stand,’‘Kishka King”which specialized in Kishka (Stuffed Derma )1 0 inch Hot dogs and Charlotte Russes, on Pitkin Ave in Brownsville  B’klyn another was Weiss’s Hot Dogs on Crossbay Blvd, before the Far Rockaway toll bridge,  in Manhattan there was Glucksterns , not a delicatessen but a fancy kosher restaurant , Dubrows on  Eastern Pkwy in Crown Heights , Ratners dairyResturant in Manhattan . I read that in a time frame from 1950 -1970 the re was 750 Kosher delis in Brooklyn and the Bronx alone , Katz Deli thou not Kosher is still around, sort of the like last of the Mohegans\

.One provision company started to acquire all the brands of Jewish provisions raising the price so high as to making it out of range for the working mans lunch or  a family eatery plus most of the Jews move out the old neighborhoods and  the demographics change d, and the new people didn’t have  a taste for  Jewish Cuisine  .Dubrows became a hang out for old Jewish Men  who would sit and drink coffee for hours and bullshit and buy nothing else . I wish these places were  still around today, Like  the Arthur Godfrey song ” I’d give  a million tommorro s  for just one yesterday.end

231390_chowchowCirca 1960 N.Y.C. My cousin had a fleet of Chow Chow cup trucks in which he sold Chinese food off of . not pints and quarts. but in an edible bowl ,containing Chow mein, egg rolls etc. The buisness faded with the perliferation of Chineese take outs in the 1960′s.I think in todays market it can fly once more, he owned the Chow chow cup outright built up routes and sold them in the metropolitan N.Y. and near upstate area of N.Y., .End
